Fundamentals are a huge part of my curriculum. What do I use to plan? I have been using this book for about 3 years now. I have used it for beginners through collegiate private lessons. This book has been fantastic in helping plan a fundamental percussion curriculum. I still use and reference Thom Hannum's check patterns daily with my students. I use the snare drum and keyboard material in The Packet daily. It is very easy to read with rhythms, counting, and stickings. It develops the fundamentals slowly and effectively with several different exercises for each concept. (Snare drum, Keyboard, and Drumset!)
